143 | The Emu and The Kangaroo | Rachel Scholich | $8000 | Oil paint on linen canvas, a contemporary impressionistic portrait

Inspired by Uncle Mickey O’Brien, a Senior Kaurna man, I learned how the city of Adelaide is built on the Kaurna people’s map of emus and kangaroos embedded into the landscape, reflecting their deep connection to the land. This beautiful heritage influenced my decision to paint his portrait, capturing the wisdom and cultural richness he embodies.
